Welcome to our drought Web quest and email debate. Updated 17th May 2005

Again Canada and Australia meet in a friendlychallenge across the sea.

In this 'project' we will explore the drought and the effects it has on our countries.

Each school will provide twoor three members to each group. Each student will adopt a role to play in the coming email debate. In each group of students there will be: a reporter, a scientist, a farmer, an alien and a city dweller.

To begin with, each student will study their role. They will complete a 'Y' chart to create their character and understand their character's role.

To focus on the issues students will use the following Blooms' taxonomy:

Knowledge ~ What causes droughts in Aus?

Comprehension ~ Why are there flash floods in Aus?

Application ~ As salinity is caused by a rinsing water table, what are three
ways to lower it?

Analysis ~ What are the two types of salinisation not caused naturally and
what are the differences between their causes?

Synthesis ~ How does the extreme climate effect agriculture, and therefore
the economics of an area?

Evaluation ~ 1) What do you think should be changed after a flood, drought
or salination to hopefully prevent repetition?
